Disneyland with Tanner

We've had a family tradition of taking each of our kids to Disneyland individually when they turn 8 . Amy took Kenly and I took Kaden & Jordan when each of them turned 8. For Tanner, we decided that we both wanted to go since he is our last. We kept it a surprise, telling all the kids that we were going on a family vacation to Bamma and Papa's for Easter weekend. We had worked it out that my Mom and Dad would watch the older kids while we headed to Disneyland. The morning after arriving at Bamma and Papa's house, we secretly got all of our's and Tanner's luggage in the van, and then casually asked Tanner if he wanted to go to Walmart with us. He said "sure" and hopped in the van with us. We started driving South to Utah, and about 15 minutes into the drive, Tanner said "how far is it to Walmart??" I told him that it was a long ways away so he might as well take a nap. He did that and when he woke up an hour or so later, he exclaimed "we aren't there yet??" So, we told him that we had decided to go pay Uncle James and Aunt Ashley a visit (we had made arrangements to have them take us to the airport:)) He was excited about that, so the surprise stayed in tact:) We arrived at James and Ashley's home, visited for a bit, and then loaded up in their van and headed for the airport. When we got there, Tanner asked why we were at the airport, so we told him that because the weather was bad, we had decided that it would be safer to fly back to Idaho Falls. He has never been on a plane, so he thought that was a GREAT idea! We got checked in and got into the security check line and asked Amy how long she wanted to keep the secret going. We decided to go ahead and let him in on the truth. We asked him "if you could go anywhere on a plane, where would you want to go?" He thought for a few seconds and said "Disneyland!" I kind of laughed and then showed him the tickets and said "these tickets show that we are going from SLC to Orange County." He of course asked where Orange County was, and I told him that it was the same place where Disneyland was! He thought for a few more seconds and looked up and said "are we going to Disneyland???" We told him we were and he got soooo excited that his face turned completely red and then gave us both big hugs. It was a great surprise!! We had a great time and didn't have to deal with any big tantrums or screaming the whole time we were there (like we saw many other moms and dads dealing with in Disneyland).

Facebook has taken most of my computer time, so it's been waaay to long since I posted anything on our blog. So, I decided to just throw a bunch of pictures from the past few months up to catch anyone up that happens to look at our blog.

Kaden, Jordan, and Tanner all entered an art contest at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Out of more than 1300 entries, all of them were chosen to be in the top 50. Kaden and Jordan were in the same age group and Kaden won 1st prize and Jordan took 3rd. The Bison in this picture is Kadens. We sure are proud of them.

Amy and I went to the Park County Fair and saw the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in concert.

Kand went to Key Camp in Casper, so we took the whole family and stayed at the C'mon Inn.

While in Casper, we ate at a restaurant called Sanders. It was a fun place!

Amy's brother David just got married to a great girl! Welcome to that family Amanda!

We have been working on finishing our basement this Summer. Hopefully it will be done in a month or so. We can't wait for our home theater!

Well, I'm happy to report that Amy made it through another year with me! I know it's been rough for her, but she's been a trooper! I really am so grateful to have such an incredible spouse! All of the Korean guests that come here for our business think that I am married to a super-model or movie star when they meet Amy. When she substitutes at the local high school, all the girls get jealous because they think there is new competition in the school, and all the guys hit on her. Poor Amy....all the things she has to deal with because she still looks like she is 18!

Thanks for sticking with me for all these years, Luv! You are the best and I look forward to all the years to come!

Unplanned Trip to Utah

So, with Amy out of town with Kaden and Jordan in D.C., Kenly, Tanner, and I didn't really have any plans for the weekend. On Saturday, started thinking about how to spend the day, when I had the thought that maybe we should head down to Utah and see my new twin neices. It didn't take much more than a suggestion to convince the kids to go, so we packed some things and took off. We arrived in Lehi at my brother Matt's house a little after 10pm and boy did we surprise him. It was a really quick trip, but well worth it to see and hold Piper and Averi. They are so tiny, but so perfect. Tanner also had a lot of fun playing with his cousins Bryce, Kyle, and Asher.

"The Best Christmas Ever!!"

......at least that is what the kids all said. There is a valid reason for that though. After all of the "normal" Christmas presents were open, I went out to the garage and brought in one more little present, one that actually topped all the rest. This one actually made Kaden cry when he saw it, and made all of the kids forget about all the other gifts they got....at least for a little while. Yep, we finally added another member to our family, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy!! There was no question that it was love at first sight for all of the kids, and for Amy and I too:) He is so cute and good natured that it's hard not to like him.....even though he pee's everwhere! We are planning on having him be a mostly outdoor dog, but in this cold weather, we have been keeping him inside. The kids all decided that they liked the name "Kipper", so Kipper he is. We are happy to have him!

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting some pics of our Maui trip. As expected, it was incredible. What an amazing place!! We had such a great time with my Mom & Dad and my brother Cory and his wife Lisa. We spent the large majority of our time snorkeling, boogie boarding, site seeing, and eating. Here are a bunch of pictures to prove it. Enjoy!

First Day of School--2008

These are a week old, but we finally reached that wonderful time of year again when we send our kids out the door each morning to catch the bus. I just don't know if Amy is going to be able to handle all of the quiet during the day! I'm sure she'll manage somehow. The boys were pretty excited this year because they are all in a brand new school! We went to the open house and it is REALLY nice!! Kenly is just excited, as usual, to be getting older and to soon become a "teenager." They are truly incredible kids and we feel extremely blessed to claim them as ours! Have a GREAT year, guys!!

Fun Saturday!!

We had a really fun Saturday yesterday! Our friends, the Merritts, called and invited us to go to a place called Five Springs that is about an hour drive from Powell with them. It was beautiful!! We all had a great time and now know of a great nearby place to go camping.

Out with the Old......In with the New!!!

Well, after 14 years of driving the same great truck, we finally decided that the timing was right for an upgrade. I always told myself that I would NEVER buy new, but the incentives were good enough this year that I couldn't resist. I have LOVED my little truck during all the years that I have had it, but with the kids getting bigger, it has become more and more difficult for them to fit. With my new Tundra, we all fit much better. I'm keeping my old truck, and I wouldn't be surprised if it keeps going for many years to come. Here's to the next 10-15 years with my new Tundra!!!

Annual Utah/Lagoon Trip

We recently had our annual trip to Utah for USDF day at Lagoon! It was great to see our family and friends, and of course, go to Lagoon. Until next year.....

Amy and I (yes, JUST Amy and I!! The kids stayed with Bamma and Papa) went to San Diego a couple of weeks ago for a 5 day vacation. It was so much fun!! We went because I had agreed to discounted rate through a time-share place. Of course we had to attend one of their presentations while we were there, but after 3 1/2 hours of sales tactics, we held firm and didn't buy. Who needs a time-share when their parents already have one??? It was so much fun to just hang out on the beach and relax. We really didn't plan anything before we left, we just kind of did whatever we felt like doing. On the day that we went Sea World, we had a bit of excitement(terror actually). We decided to go get a Subway sandwich by Mission Beach before heading into Sea World. We parked, crossed the street, ordered our sandwiches to go, and were walking back to the car across a crosswalk (with big flashing yellow lights for driver to be warned). Amy headed out just a little ahead of me and the car in the first lane of traffic stopped, but when she passed that car and started into the other lane, I noticed that the oncoming car was not even thinking about stopping. I yelled "AMY! AMY! AMY!" and tried to grab her, but there was just no time. The driver slammed on the breaks to late and skidded within inches of Amy, barely missing her. It was close enough that mirror of the girl's car hit Amy in the arm as it skidded past. The young girl rolled down her window and was visibly shaken (not nearly as much as we were), and appologized. We just told her to be more careful and went to our car. We spent the next half hour in the Sea World parking lot with Amy crying and me sitting there thanking Heavenly Father that she was OK. WAY too close of a call! I don't know what I would do without Amy! I'm so grateful that she wasn't hurt, or worse!

Blogging Slacker!

So...HOLY MOLY!! It's already been about a month and a half since I last posted anything. Unbelievable!! This Summer has flown by! I probably don't have anyone out there that looks at this anymore, but I'm going to try to catch up.....little by little. Here's a start.....

Kaden, Tanner and I were able to accompany Amy and her Young Women on a float trip down the Shoshone River. The boys froze, but it sure was fun!

Amy and I went to the Sawyer Brown concert at the fair and it was a blast from the past. We went to a Sawyer Brown concert at Utah State when we were dating....and they still sound the same!

Tanner turned 7 and was spoiled as usual.

The Park County Fair came to town and we all had a great time....especially the kids!

Kaden had a fun (and long) minor league baseball season! He made the Powell Allstar team and they had some fun games.

Hoffman Family Reunion

We recently had the Hoffman Family Reunion (my Mom's Mom's side) at Ririe Reservoir (near Idaho Falls). Even though we don't know most of the family members that attend, it was a lot of fun to see those that we do know, and get to know those that we don't a little better. The kids had a lot of fun playing with their cousins and seeing their grandparents and other relatives.

We saw this Grizzly on the way home in Yellowstone. It's the first bear I've seen in the park since I was a kid, and was Amy's and the kid's first time to see a bear in the wild.

Korean Guests from Incheon City

A few weeks ago, we had some important guest from Incheon City in South Korea visit to check out our Eleutian operations in Wyoming. We took a week and showed them just about everything that we could up here in the Big Horn Basin area. We had a great time showing them the many appealing things about Northwest Wyoming. We visited Yellowstone, went to the Cody Rodeo, went rafting down the Shoshone River, visited the Buffalo Bill Museum, went to an Indian Pow Wow, went to a real dinasaur dig, and even took them to the "Broken Back Ranch"! They loved it all and it seems that we built solid enough relationships that they really want to do business with us (which was ultimately the whole purpose of all this fun:-)). Mrs. Jeon, the only woman that came, was so impressed that she is planning on moving to Powell this Fall with her 3 kids so that they can experience the things that she did. It was a very successful visit! They even got to spend time with the Governor!

Our Dad is the Best in the West!

One of the first things I remember Mike saying is, "I'm going to be the best dad, just like my dad." (This was 1991 and I remember thinking, "OK, I'll take that one for my eternal companion!") Mike has more than lived up to this vow. He loves his kids! He reads to them each night from the best books, and gathers our family for our nightly study of The Book of Mormon and family prayer. He works hard every day and never complains. He teaches his sons by example that dads pitch in and clean up around the house, and that they can smile and have fun while doing it. He makes time to attend every ball game and practice, and loves playing catch with his sons in the backyard. He has a special way with Kenly, and makes her laugh but loves to tease her just as much as he teases the boys. He is the one the kids want by their side when they are sick. Every time I witness these close, eternal relationships he is building with his kids, I fall Moore and Moore in love with Mike. He is the Best!!!

...And did I mention he is King of the Grill? I may have planned the meal, but Mike grilled the
hand-cut ribeyes to perfection!

Ooh, succulent marinated meat with sauteed mushrooms and red onions, and asparagus braised in olive oil. We didn't mind when Tanner and Kaden took one disdainful look at dinner and requested mac-n-cheese....we'll eat their portion for lunch tomorrow!

Exciting Trip Home from Utah

As you can see from the pictures below, we had a bit of fun on the way home from our vacation in Utah. About 20 minutes outside of Cody, a deer came out of no where and Amy had no time to swerve or even slow down, so she hit it at 70mph! It threw the deer about 100ft from the point of impact, and didn't do our van much good either. Amy did a great job of keeping the van under control and pulling off the side of the road safely. She didn't lose control until she got out of the van and saw the damage, and realized what could have happened. We feel really blessed that none of us were hurt. Even with all of the damage, we were still able to drive home and hopefully the insurance will take care of the rest. Apparently you are not a "real" Wyomingite until you hit a deer, so I guess we are true Wyomingites now:)

Although we started dating 17 years ago this month, Mike and I had known each other even earlier, since school started at Utah State in September 1990. Mike, age 22, and his awesome roommate Steve Morgan had been assigned to hometeach the freshmen girls in apartment #34, and I was never so eager to have hometeachers! The first time I saw Mike he was wearing a dark blue, paisley print, button-down shirt and tight Levi 550's, and he had a sweet, wavy, dark-haired mullet. Tall, dark, and absolutely gorgeous. All year long these hometeachers never missed a month, but Mike and I continued to date other people...Mike mostly dating girls who asked him out first. He did call me once (#5 or 7 on the list of girls) to ask me out for Korean food in SLC (eeew, I remember thinking, Korean food?!) and though I already had a date that night, before I could choose my words they came out in a torrent: "But please ask me again sometime; it's my goal to go out with you!" (His response, "Uh, okay...") That 'goal' came true on Mother's Day 1991. (It's a long story, involving a villain, a rescuer, and a happy ending...but we'll save that for another time.)

On a bike ride with the boys the other day, we didn't make it very far because they wanted to stop and play at one of the school playgrounds. It was fun and I got some good shots of them in action. I especially like the one of Kaden jumping out of the swing. He definitely ate some sand on that landing:)~

Kindergarten Circus

Tanner had his Kindergarten Circus on May 9th. He was the cutest Wildcat out there! It's quite the event here in Powell each year....standing room only! Although the circus is kind of fun, after sitting for one and a half hours on hard benches with no room to move, Amy and I decided that we aren't too disappointed that Tanner is our youngest!

Uplifting and Inspiring

For many years, the Mesa (Arizona) Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had exhibits on the temple grounds during the Easter season. This year, there was also a 'Reflections of Christ' photography exhibit in the Mesa Temple Visitor's Center. The photographer was given permission to photograph pageant cast members for the exhibit. They traveled to various locations in Arizona that the photographer thought looked like the places in Israel where these events took place and recreated the scenes. The photographer worked with a few others to put together a 5-minute slideshow which includes every image from the exhibit and set it to the hymn ' Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.'

Just remember when you're watching the video that these are photographs -- they aren't paintings. You can expand the video to fill the screen by clicking the icon in the lower right (left of the volume control).

Bamma's Birthday!!

Mom (known to our kids as "Bamma") just had her birthday last week. I'm not going to divulge Mom's age, but if I didn't know, and was just judging her age based on looking at the pictures (the most recent is at the bottom), I'd put her at around 39 or so. She was dang cute as a little girl, and kind of a hottie (can I say that about my own Mom??) when she was in high school, but she seems to keep getting better looking the older she gets. Amazing!! We sure love you Bamma, and hope you had a great birthday....whichever one it was!

Ten Sleep BBQ

Last week we went to Ten Sleep for a BBQ that Kent (Eleutian's CEO) had at his place. We had some members of our Eleutian Korea team in town for some strategic planning meetings, so Kent wanted to show them some Wyoming fun. We all had a blast experiencing horseback riding, bum lamb feeding, 4-wheeler rides, cat birthing, great food, and great people. Everyday I feel extremely grateful for the opportunity I have to work with Kent and the rest of the team at Eleutian. One note....the cowboy hat isn't mine. I just wore it to look the part:-) YEEHAW!!

16th Wedding Anniversary!!

Amy and I just celebrated our 16th anniversary!!! It is really hard to believe that we've been married for that long. I don't think we've changed a bit (but I'll let you be the judge). They have been a great 16 years! I am grateful every day that Amy said "yes" all those years ago. She is such an incredible wife and mom and I am a much better person with her pulling me along through this life. I look forward to the next 50 years!!

Some of you may find yourselves asking, "Are those really antelope horns hanging on Mike and Amy's bedroom wall??" and the answer to that question would be "Yes". I shot that antelope back when I was 12 or 13 and told Amy that if we are living in Wyoming that we should do as Wyomingites do. She hates them, but she is willing to put up with them until we get the basement finished.

For Easter we decided that it was about time that we made it down to Mom and Dad's new place in Idaho Falls. Even though the park wasn't open, it wasn't too bad of a drive. It took about 7 hrs or so. It was great to see Mom & Dad's BEAUTIFUL home!! I helped Dad do some finish work in the bedroom he is finishing downstairs the first day. Then I ended up getting really sick for the rest of the time there, so I just laid around and slept as much as I could. The girls at least got to go out and do some shopping. It sure was fun to just spend several days hanging out with Mom and Dad. They are so much fun and our kids couldn't ask for better grandparents. I think they love Bamma and Papa more than they love us!

Kaden is in his 2nd year of playing basketball here in Powell. He is really doing fantastic! I can't even begin to describe what I feel when I see the potential he has!! I wasn't really planning on coaching his team this year because I've been so busy with Eleutian, but I kind of got pulled in and it's been a lot of fun. He's "the Guy" on his team and it is so much fun to watch. Even though they don't keep score at this age, the dad's do:-), and Kaden's team has only lost one game to a really stacked team. I hope he continues to enjoy it and continues to work hard, because it could be a lot of fun to watch over the years!! Way to go Kaden!! We are really proud of you!!

At Lagoon with the Jensen family. The Jensens were some of our first friends we made in Powell, but unfortunately, they moved back to Utah in June. Andy is 6'7" and was the starting center for Weber State University the year they went to the sweet 16.

Kaden qualified to go to the Junior Olympics in Casper last year. He competed in basketball and soccer and got gold medals in each for his age group.

All of our kids have really excelled academically here. This is Tanner and Kaden after they received the academic allstar awards for their classes.

It was a big year for Jordan. He turned eight, was baptized, and got to go to Disneyland!!

OK....I have to admit that these pictures concern me a little. Jordan and Tanner pull off being nerds waaaay too easily. Kaden, of course, was way too cool to even consider dressing up like a nerd for nerd day. Tanner actually wouldn't have either if Jordan hadn't dressed up. Jordan is our one boy that just has fun and doesn't really care too much about what others will think. He's always great for a good laugh!

Amazing Wildlife!!

This is one of the amazing things about living in Wyoming---having opportunities to see sights like this! On a trip down to Utah, we saw these incredible bucks just as we were leaving Lander, Wyoming. We were in awe!! I had never seen a group of nice bucks like this all together. I was only about 20 yards away from them when I took these pictures.

The pics below were taken recently when I took the boys on a drive outside of Cody up the Southfork. It's a beautiful drive that deadends about 50 miles in. I would guess that we saw more that 500 head of mule deer, and over 100 head of Bighorn Sheep.....and lots of warning signs about Grizzly Bears!

Amy's Trip to Washington DC

Amy's wonderful sister Natalie invited her to visit in Washington DC for a few days, to see the sights, tour the West Wing, go behind the scenes at the Supreme Court, meet Justice Alito, and go to the Barry Manilow concert at the Verizon Center! Amy was ecstatic ---how could she refuse such an offer? So Mike graciously took over the full-time parenting for a few days while Amy shared some priceless sister bonding time with Nat, husband Dave, and nephews Scott, Matthew, and Talmage Moore.

This is the Highest Court in the Land...it's even above the Supreme Court, in a gym upstairs. But it still didn't improve Amy's shot.

Our Home

This is our Wyoming abode. We really feel blessed to have found a great home that fits our family, built about a year before we moved into it. We have an unfinished basement that we will hopefully be able to finish in the next couple of years for our sons to inhabit.

We just got sod in before the weather turned cold, so we are crossing our fingers that it took root and will come back in the Spring. The kids are really excited to have a lawn to play on and Amy is really excited to not have kids bringing in dirt and mud into the house. We still have a lot of landscaping to do before we are done though. As you can see, our neighborhood is in dire need of some trees!!

Pinewood Derby

Kaden and Jordan are both in Boy Scouts now and recently had their pinewood derby. I, of course, encouraged the kids to design, carve, and paint their own cars. I would never be one of those dads that makes it all about him and not the boys:-) OK.....I may have helped a little. Jordan was really excited about his "Darth Vader" car, but he ended up getting the flu, so we had to race proxy for him. They didn't end up doing as well as the boys (dad) would have hoped (tied for 1st place), but Jordan's car did take 2nd place overall, and Kade's took 4th.

These are all the cars I've made so far for my boys over the years.
